22 years ago, we had the chance to open for Richie Kotzen at what was his first show in Chile, at the now-defunct Rockola.

We were far less experienced back then and just starting our career, so it was a performance marked by the kind of situations that often happen to emerging bands: a short circuit in the middle of the show caused by a beer one of our roadies spilled over some cables, or a couple of band members getting scolded by Pat Torpey —the late drummer of Mr. Big, who was touring with Kotzen at the time— for smoking in the VIP area.

That’s why, when the opportunity came up to open his show again in 2026—this time alongside Adrian Smith, one of the guitarists we admire most for his work with Iron Maiden, a band we’re all huge fans of—we received the news with great excitement and approached the challenge with the seriousness it deserved.

The first step was scouting the venue. Thanks to an invitation to see Halestorm the week before at Teatro Coliseo, we were able to get to know the space. The only issue was that we miscalculated the dose of some magical gummies and reality got a bit distorted, which made the fieldwork somewhat challenging (even after 22 years, some things don’t change). Still, despite that small setback, the work that followed—constant rehearsals and assembling a solid crew made up of friends and longtime collaborators—allowed us to properly prepare the technical setup for a venue we knew isn’t easy in terms of sound.

On the day of the show, we were able to deliver our 30-minute set without any issues. The setlist included older songs like King of the Night and Unleash the Love, tracks from Nuevos Tiempos—including the title track, which we hadn’t played live in around 15 years—as well as material from our FHT era with Voodoo Negra. We also added our most recent songs from The Love EP: Love Lovin’ You and Toxic Love.

Hace 22 años tuvimos la posibilidad de abrir para Richie Kotzen en lo que fue su primer show en Chile, en la ya desaparecida Rockola.

Éramos bastante más inexpertos y recién estábamos empezando nuestra carrera, así que fue una presentación marcada por situaciones que suelen pasarle a bandas que están partiendo: un cortocircuito en pleno show, provocado por una cerveza que uno de nuestros roadies derramó sobre unos cables, o el reto que recibieron un par de integrantes por parte de Pat Torpey —el fallecido baterista de Mr. Big, que giraba con Kotzen en ese entonces— por estar fumando en el VIP.

Por eso, cuando surgió la posibilidad de abrir nuevamente su presentación este 2026, esta vez junto a Adrian Smith —uno de los guitarristas que más admiramos por su trayectoria en Iron Maiden, banda de la que somos todos fanáticos—, recibimos la noticia con mucha alegría y asumimos el desafío con la seriedad necesaria.

El primer paso fue hacer un scouting del recinto. Gracias a una invitación para ver a Halestorm la semana anterior en el Teatro Coliseo, pudimos conocer el espacio. El único problema fue que calculamos mal la dosis de unas gomitas mágicas y la realidad se distorsionó un poco, lo que dificultó la salida a terreno (aunque hayan pasado 22 años, algunas cosas no cambian). Aun así, y pese a ese pequeño tropiezo, el trabajo posterior —ensayos constantes y la elección de un crew sólido, formado por amigos y compañeros de mil batallas— nos permitió preparar de buena forma el planteamiento técnico para un teatro que sabíamos que no es fácil en términos de sonido.

El día del show pudimos presentar sin inconvenientes nuestros 30 minutos de música. El set incluyó temas antiguos como King of the Night y Unleash the Love, canciones de Nuevos Tiempos, incluido el track que da nombre al disco —y que no tocábamos en vivo hace alrededor de 15 años—, además de parte de nuestra etapa FHT con Voodoo Negra. También sumamos nuestras canciones más recientes de The Love EP: Love Lovin’ You y Toxic Love.
